Conception of Discovery's season 1:

On a reconnaissance mission Starfleet vessel Shenzou discovers a strange object of unknown origin. The recovering leads to a confrontation with the long time unseen Klingons. On board of the small federation ship Captain Georgiou and officer Michael Burnham start a dispute how to handle the alien hostility. Out of this situation a desperate clash emerges, leading to war.

A hundred years after events of Enterprise and some years before the adventures of Captain Kirk and his legendary crew this exciting series takes place. By the way, it has got nothing to do with the three new motion pictures. Lead character Michael Burnham is not a captain but a crewmember with unusual background. She is a human educated by vulcans at their home planet.

"Disco" shows plenty of surprising turns, changes and quick story sequences, that portray the historicly known Klingon conflict. The audiovisual quality is brilliant and keeps easily up with the new movies. Accessoires and uniformes appear very elegant. Story restraints self-imposed over centuries have been put out of the airlock. Nethertheless connaisseurs may notice loveable details, like tribbles, gorn skeleton or similarities within the engine room. Considered critical is the unconversant appearance of the Klingons. Pacifists will not like the brutal fighting scenes not fitting to Star Trek. Discovery represents just a singular exception, also relating to the dubious drive technology. Biggest flaw could be the short season containing only 15 episodes. Compared to Deep Space Nine with approximately 26 episodes a season.

The show is action-packed and full of imaginative stories with remarkable characters. It fits widely into the other Star Trek shows and we look forward for more Michael Burnham adventures.
