STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE

In january 1993 the third Star Trek show started while "The Next Generation" was still flying on TV towards its final. Deep Space Nine is the strongest narrative series of Star Trek, that is what many fans believe. After a fascinating pilot episode the story grows slowly after a weak start into unimagined heights.

Story: The former Cardassian space station Terok Nor in planet Bajor's orbit is taken over by a mixed delegation of Bajor and United Federation of Planets, after the Cardassians retreated. It is given a new name: Deep Space Nine. Starfleet commander Benjamin Sisko gets the order from Captain Picard to lead the starbase.

Story: The region DS9 resides suddenly becomes more important as a large stable wormhole is discovered, leading to the distant Gamma Quadrant of the milky way galaxy. During the show viewers experience several exciting episodes with numerous illustrious citizens and crew, conflicts with Cardassians, Klingons and a mysterious force from Gamma Quadrant.
Style: The interior of the architectural appealing station was shaped by dark-hued colours and bright indirect lighting. A cosy atmosphere is created. The cramped and simple rooms of space ship Defiant strenghtens this impression later in the show. Computer-generated special effects were used to visualize spectacular scenes, but some of them had been cut due to financial shortage towards the end. Most viewers did not realize this though. A HD-remaster is uncertain, because the 90ies low-textured CGI objects would have to be rebuilt from scratch.
